“AWAY FROM HOME AGAIN“
Working with the displaced Palestinian refugee community from Nahr el Bared camp
Established with the intent of promoting active learning and creative expression among Palestinian Refugees from camps and gatherings in Lebanon, ARCPA/AL-JANA has gradually extended its services to also involve other marginalized communities in Lebanon and those affected by conflict.
In the specific field of work with war affected communities, the main focus of ARCPA is on assisting children and youth to develop coping strategies by involving them in creative and empowering activities based on one's self-expression and self-realization, group work, and mediating in conflict transformation.
The ARCPA/Al-JANA programme “Away from home again” was established after the armed clashes broke out in Nahr el Bared camp (North Lebanon).
Due to the massive destruction of the camp, all its inhabitants, some 40,000 persons, were forced to leave the camp and take the refuge elsewhere, mostly in the neighbouring Beddawi camp. Both the displaced refugees and their hosts had and still have to bear with the extremely difficult living conditions, as the population of the camp doubled. At the very early stage of their displacement, ARCPA/Al-JANA initiated activities with children from Nahr el Bared in Beddawi camp, such as:
